About Aarhus

Aarhus is Denmark’s second largest city with a population of 324,000 people. Aarhus is known as the City of Smiles and therefore we are very much looking forward to welcoming all sailors, audience etc. to the three Olympic Sailing Championships in 2015.

Aarhus is ready for 2016

Aarhus is beautifully situated in Eastern Jutland surrounded by forest and beach. The city is closely connected to the waterfront, which has undergone an extensive urbanization. The Bay of Aarhus provides some of the most attractive sailing waters in the world. The great conditions have earned Aarhus several sailing events through the years as for example ISAF Youth Worlds 2008,505 World Championship 2010, A-cat World Championship 2011, Soling Open European Championship 2012, 29’er World Championship 2013, 49’er & 49’er FX European Championship 2013, & 49er & 49er FX Youth World Championship 2014 just to mention a few. In 2018 Aarhus will be the proud host of ISAF 2018 World Championships. With the experience of the previous sailing events, Aarhus is ready for 2016.

Attractions in Aarhus

As a city Aarhus has a lot to offer. Åboulevarden is located along the Aarhus River. It is a highly popular spot for both locals and tourists to dine, meet or just enjoy the view of Aarhus. With its several cafes and restaurants you will not leave the place hungry. In continuation of Åboulevarden you will find the oldest quarter of Aarhus; the Latin Quarter. With cobblestone streets and small exclusive shops the quarter is full of life and atmosphere.

If you are interested in culture and architecture the ARoS Art Museum is worth a visit. ARoS is the main art museum in Aarhus and one of the largest museums in Northern Europe. On the roof of ARoS you can also visit Your rainbow panorama from here you can move around in a 150 metre long, circular panoramic path with 360º views of the surrounding city. With the colorful rainbow on the top of the Museum ARoS has become an iconic building. Walking inside the rainbow and seeing the city from above is almost mandatory when visiting Aarhus.

This is just some of the attractions Aarhus has to offer but the best way to see and experience the city is to go and explore for yourself!
