About Sailing Aarhus

The organiser of the 2016 Finn Junior World Championship is Sailing Aarhus, which is a non-profit sport event organization founded by the six yacht clubs in Aarhus: Kaløvig Yacht Club, Egå Yacht Club, Aarhus Yacht Club, Yacht Club Bugten, Aarhus Windsurfing Club and Marselisborg Yacht Club.

Sailing Aarhus was founded in 1999 by initiative of the six yacht clubs, the City of Aarhus and the Danish Sailing Association. The member clubs of Sailing Aarhus represent close to 3,000 yacht club members in the Aarhus area, which is really unique. The clubs possess valuable experience with hosting both smaller and bigger sailing events either alone or together with the other member clubs.

Over time Sailing Aarhus has staged numerous of international sailing races in Aarhus and participated in several bidding campaigns. Some were lost but other won. The strong collaboration between the clubs paid off and in 2008 Aarhus became the host of one of the most important youth sailing events: 2008 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship. Since then Sailing Aarhus has been hosting several events such as 505 World Championship 2010, A-cat World Championship 2011, Soling Open European Championship 2012, 29’er World Championship 2013, 49’er & 49’er FX European Championship 2013, & 49er & 49er FX Youth World Championship 2014, Nacra 17 World Championship 2015, Laser Standard & Radial European Championship 2015, 470 European Championship 2015,  just to mention a few.

In 2014 the International Sailing Federation appointed Sailing Aarhus as the host of the 2018 ISAF Sailing World Championships.
